to be from PolQuest.com Online Auction that requests sensitive personal
information, be cautious. The email may be a "spoof" or

unsuspecting recipients will reply or click on a link contained in the email
and then provide sensitive personal information including passwords,
social insurance numbers or credit card numbers.
Legitimate PolQuest.com Online
Auction emails
PolQuest.com will never ask
you to provide account numbers, passwords or other sensitive information
through email. If PolQuest.com does request information from you, a copy of
that email will be in the My Messages box in My PolQuest.com. If you have any
doubt that an email really is from PolQuest.com, open a new browser window,
type www.polquest.com/auction, and sign in. Any email that looks as if it is
from PolQuest.com, mentions a problem with your account or requests personal
information, and is not in My Messages in My PolQuest.com Online Auction, is a
spoof (fake) email.
Spoof emails
Spoof emails often include the use
of the PolQuest.com logo and an PolQuest.com address in the "From"
line (for example, "From: support@polquest.com") The email may mimic
common PolQuest.com emails, such as notifications of problems with your
account, “Ask seller a question” emails.
Spoof emails typically have the
following characteristics.
- Requests sensitive information. (Example: Please update
your credit card number.)
- Starts with a generic greeting. (Example: Dear
PolQuest.com Online Auction member)
- Has an urgent tone for quick action. (Example:
“Ignoring this message will result in a suspension of your account within
24 hours”.)
- Contains links to Web pages that resemble the
PolQuest.com sign-in page. (Example spoof Web link:
http://signin-polquest.com/ or http://signin-polquest.ca/)
When you receive a suspicious email
- Do not click on any link in the email. The
purpose of spoof email is to lead you to a Web site and attempt to collect
personal information and commit identity theft or other crimes.
Report the email by forwarding it to spoof@polquest.com.
PolQuest.com will review the email and let you know if it was legitimately sent
by PolQuest.com.
Important: In order for PolQuest.com investigate your report, you must
forward the email without adding attachments, adding text or altering text.
If you cannot complete your listing
as planned, you can end your listing before the scheduled date. If there are
bids on your item, you can cancel them.
Reasons for ending listings early
include:
- The item is no longer available for sale.
- There was an error in the starting price or reserve
amount.
- There was an error in the listing.
- The item was lost or broken.
Note: Your account will still be charged listing fees (such as
the Insertion Fee) if you end your listing early. Consider revising your
listing first if there are aspects of it you want to change or improve.
Timing Matters
When there are 12 hours or less
remaining and the item has a winning bid, including a reserve met bid, sellers
cannot make any changes to the listing, including:
- Ending the item early. Sellers may cancel bids, but not
end the item unless the item is being sold to the high bidder.
- Adding to or changing the item description.
Note: Canceling bids or making changes to a listing with bids
when there are 12 hours or less remaining, can damage the buyer experience and
can undermine trust in the marketplace.
To end your listing early
- Type your item number into the end my listing early
form. (You can get this number on your listing View Item Page, on your
confirmation email, or on your PolQuest.com Online Auction page.)
- If there are bids on your item, choose between:
a. Cancel bids and end
listing early
or
b.Sell item to high
bidder(s) and end listing early
If your item has no bids, you can skip this step. - Choose the reason you're ending your listing early.
- Your listing will end and will no longer be displayed
on PolQuest.com Online Auction. If there were bidders, they will be
emailed that their bid will be cancelled.
Note: Sellers are not permitted to cancel bids and end listings
early in order to avoid selling an item that did not meet the desired sale
price. This is considered to be reserve fee circumvention. Although there are
legitimate reasons for ending a listing early, abuse of this option will be investigated.
A bid may be retracted (cancelled)
by the buyer in some cases if the retraction meets the requirements of our
PolQuest.com Online Auction policy. Note: There is no equivalent for bid
retraction in Buy It Now listings. Once you've confirmed your purchase,
you are obligated to pay the seller. There is also no equivalent for bid
retraction for item listings using the Best Offer feature.
Whether you can retract your bid or
not depends on the following factors:
- Why you
are retracting your bid;
- When
your bid was placed and when the listing ends.
You can retract a bid or a Best
Offer for the following reasons:
- You made a typographical error and entered the
wrong bid amount. For instance, you bid C$99.50 instead of C$9.95. If this
occurs, enter the correct bid amount immediately after you retract your
bid. If you do not place another bid, the retraction will be in violation
of PolQuest.com's policy and could result in your suspension.
- The description of an item you have bid on changed
significantly after you placed your bid.
You cannot contact the seller. This means that
you tried to call the seller, but his or her phone number doesn't work, or
that you have tried emailing a message to the seller and it comes back
undeliverable.
Unpaid Items can usually be resolved
by direct communication between buyers and sellers. PolQuest.com provides an
online process enabling the buyer and seller to communicate with each other to
resolve the situation. PolQuest.com make clear that buyers must pay for the
items that they commit to purchase.
There are four steps to the Unpaid Item
process.
1) Sellers can file an Unpaid Item
Dispute.
Sellers can report an Unpaid Item up
to 45 days after the transaction date (i.e. the date when the buyer commits to
buying the item and the seller commits to selling it). Usually the seller must
wait 7 days after a listing closes to file an Unpaid Item Dispute. However, in
the following exceptional cases, the seller can file a dispute immediately:
- At the time of the filing the buyer is no longer a
registered user of PolQuest.com.
- The seller and buyer wish to mutually withdraw from the
transaction.
In the first case the buyer will
receive an Unpaid Item strike and the seller will receive a Final Value Fee
credit without any additional steps.
In the second case the seller must
file the dispute for mutual withdrawal. If the buyer responds to the dispute
and agrees, the seller will receive a Final Value Fee credit and no strike will
be given to the buyer. If the buyer fails to respond, the seller can still
close the dispute to receive a Final Value Fee credit, and the buyer will not
receive an Unpaid Item strike.
2) PolQuest.com contacts the buyer.
Once the seller files an Unpaid Item
Dispute, PolQuest.com sends the buyer an email notification. The email message
will provide the following details:
- Friendly reminder to pay. The email and pop-up message will remind the buyer
that payment has not been received, along with simple instructions on how
to respond or how to pay for the item. If the buyer does not respond to
the email or pop-up message within 7 days, the seller may file for a Final
Value Fee credit.
- Mutual agreement indication. If the seller indicates that a mutual agreement has
been reached with the buyer not to complete the transaction, PolQuest.com
will ask the buyer for confirmation through an email.
- If the buyer confirms the seller's statement about
mutual agreement not to complete the transaction, the buyer will not
receive an Unpaid Item strike.
- If the buyer disagrees with the seller's statement on
mutual agreement, the buyer will not receive an Unpaid Item strike. The
dispute will be closed immediately after the buyer responds and the
seller will not be eligible to re-file an Unpaid Item dispute for that
transaction.
- If the buyer does not respond to the email or pop-up
message within 7 days then the seller will be able to close the dispute.
The buyer will not receive a strike.
3) Item Dispute Communication
The buyer is presented with several
response options to communicate to the seller:
- I want to pay now.
Paying for the item will close the dispute. For listings where PayPal is
available, the buyer just has to pay using PayPal to close the dispute.
With other payment methods (such as checks or money orders), the seller is
encouraged to wait until payment is received before choosing the
appropriate option to close the dispute.
- I already paid.
If payment has already been made, the buyer may provide details of the
payment to the seller for review. The seller can then choose the appropriate
option to close the dispute.
- Communicate with the seller. The buyer and seller can attempt to resolve the
problem by communicating directly through the PolQuest.com Web site.
PolQuest.com will provide a message area where the buyer and seller can
communicate with each other without relying on email. The seller can close
the dispute at any time by selecting the appropriate closure option.
4) Closing the dispute
The seller can close the dispute
after the buyer has responded at least once, or if the buyer does not respond
within 8 days. The seller has several options to close the dispute:
- We've completed the transaction and we're both
satisfied. With this option, the buyer
does not receive an Unpaid Item strike.
- We've agreed not to complete the transaction. With this option, the buyer does not receive an Unpaid
Item strike.
- I no longer wish to communicate with or wait for the
buyer. With this option, the buyer
receives an Unpaid Item strike.
Note: A dispute can only be open for 60 days after the
transaction date (i.e. the date when the buyer commits to buying the item and
the seller commits to selling it). If the seller has not closed the dispute
within 60 days, it will be automatically closed. When this automatic closure
takes place the seller does not receive a Final Value Fee credit and the buyer
does not receive an Unpaid Item strike.
Feedback and Unpaid Items
- Buyers and sellers may leave Feedback for each other on
transactions involving Unpaid Items even if there was a mutual agreement
not to complete the transaction. PolQuest.com encourages all users to
leave appropriate Feedback about their trading partners.
Unpaid Item strikes do not affect a user's
Feedback Score or Feedback Profile
